An intensive cataloging project is currently underway at the Melville Library and at the South Street Seaport Museum. This will make the Museum’s and Library’s archival and special collections more accessible to researchers. However, until the anticipated completion of the project the collections will be closed to the public for on-site research.

The Melville Library at the South Street Seaport Museum is able to serve researchers who demonstrate a specific need to access primary sources in the Library’s archival or special collections holdings. The Library is not staffed or equipped to assist patrons who wish to conduct general research into maritime history. The Museum collection is not currently accessible to researchers, though we are able to accommodate detailed and directed research inquiries.
