Hudson River Journey
An Artist's Perspective

When artist William Wade published his Panorama of the Hudson River over 150 years ago, its unusual scroll format, which unfolded to 12 feet in length, and its detailed depictions of the shoreline of the Hudson, created a publishing sensation. Inspired by Wade, landscape artist Douglas Lazarus created his own detailed evocation of the Hudson and published it as Hudson River Journey–An Artist's Perspective (text by Alan McKibben, Lake Champlain Publishing, 1999). The 68 original watercolors he painted from documentation made as he plied the river by boat, comprise the bulk of this exhibit, which also features an copy of Wade's 19th–century volume.
