OPPORTUNITIES:
SOUTH STREET: THE PHOTOGRAPHS OF BARBARA MENSCH
After 180 years in the area, the Fulton Fish Market relocated to the Bronx in 2005, in some ways signaling the area’s complete transformation. Mensch brilliantly photographed the area and its inhabitants, particularly the longshoremen, many of whom she got to know and those trust she gained. The exhibition will contain photographs and printed excerpts from Mensch’s book, South Street (Columbia University Press, 2007) as well as some photographs from her private collection. Opens April 2008 through December 2008
ANNUAL GALA
May 2008, previously held at the Rainbow Room, the Museum is looking for a new location in Lower Manhattan.
PUBLIC AND FAMILY PROGRAMS
Public and Family programs and events attract approximately 5,000 individuals each year. There are talks, tours, and hands-on activities that bring to life environmental and marine science, as well as 19th century seaport history and culture.
FREE FRIDAYS
Museum admission and all evening programs are free to visitors during special extended evening hours from 5-9 p.m. The Museum hosts Free Friday on the third Friday of each month. This program began in September 2005.
