Der Scutt has been a practicing architect for over 40 years and is famous for such buildings as Trump Tower.  Starting in 1989 with the purchase of his first ship model, Mr. Scutt went on to amass one of the largest private nautical collections in the world.  In 2002 the SouthStreetSeaportMuseum acquired the Der Scutt Collection, one of the greatest collections of ocean-liner models and memorabilia ever assembled.  The 2,000-item collection includes rare models, posters, photographs, commemorative hatbands, deck plans, cut-aways, prints and original ship-builders' drawings.  Many of the items are installed in the Museum's Walter Lord Gallery at 209 Water Street.  The care and connoisseurship with which Mr. Scutt assembled this material makes this a collection of particular interest to both experts and enthusiasts.
