Institutional Advancement

Institutional Advancement finds and secures funding from foundations, corporations, and individuals, and provides recognition for donors. The department obtains funding for general operating support as well as gifts restricted to specific exhibits, programs and vessels. Institutional Advancement also oversees community relations, including public outreach and marketing.

Entry level:
Depending on the volunteer's or intern's skills, filing, computer work (Excel, Word, etc.), photocopying.
Requirements: High school or higher level of education.

Specialized:
Marketing and Public Relations: Maintaining the press list with current email and contact information.  Doing press mailings as needed.
Membership: Designing and conducting programs that enhance members' understanding and appreciation of the collections, exhibitions, ships, and activities of the Museum.
Special Events: Assisting with Museum events for members and the general public.  Events occur both during and after regular business hours.  Duties include administrative support.  Availability depends on needs of department.

Hours: 2 or 3 days a week during office hours (9 AM-5 PM) and some after-hours and weekend work for events.
